Box Elder over Alder
I never worked with Box Elder before, so when I saw a slab show up on eBay that said it was Blue Stained, Red Streaked Figured Box Elder, I was intrigued. I paired this with a Red Alder back, the standard for Strats for example. The style is close to a Fender Jazzmaster, but I located the controls similar to a Gibson Firebird. I would never cover beautiful wood with a plastic pick guard! Needless to say, the finished product blew me away! I only used simple Danish Oil on the finish. The neck is a 24 3/4" scale Tiger Wood fretboard on Cherry with Jescar medium jumbo frets, dual action truss rod and 12" radius. The pickups are Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbuckers (Jazz neck / JB Bridge). The volume and tone knobs both have pull up pickup splitters.
