I was looking for a live edge slab for a special project, and came across a beautiful Gray Spalted Maple slab that I had to have.  At the time I wasn't sure what I would use it for, but the grain was so rare and striking that I knew it would make something beautiful.  I can't take a lot of credit for this one since the wood itself is the rock star!
